Undergraduate Scholarships

Undergraduate Professional Development Support

Our department has limited funds available each year to support undergraduate conference travel and professional development programs, with individual awards up to $500.

Applicants should provide:

  • a resume
  • a one-page description of their proposed research presentation, conference participation, or professional development program, explaining how it relates to their political science major and future career goals

Funds are limited to political science majors and are reviewed on a rolling basis.

Hartsell Family Internship Fund

The Hartsell Family Internship Fund offers a competitive stipend of $2,500 for a student completing an internship in the summer through Political Science 395: Internships in Political Science. Internships with city or state government, legislative or lobbying experiences, and with non-profit organizations or the corporate sector when the position is tied to intergovernmental relations are all eligible. Although not necessary, special consideration shall be given to student applicants who meet one or more of the following: (1) Desire to pursue a career in Government or careers related to Public Policy (2) Demonstrate Civic Engagement (3) Member of the Nebraska Women’s Leadership Network.

Winners of the internship stipend will be referred to as Hartsell Scholars and will write to the donor of the award at the start and conclusion of their internship, noting their background, career goals, and what they hope to gain from the experience (before), and what they did gain (after).

Eligibility
You must enroll in POLS 395 for at least 3 credits during your internship.
