McMahon chosen for Residency at the Bellagio Center

Patrice McMahon, professor in the Department of Political Science, has been selected to for the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Residency Program, which fosters exchange among leaders from a wide array of disciplines, geographies, and backgrounds. Residents advance a specific project while participating in a community and stay connected after their residency ends as members of the Bellagio Network.

"I’m just thrilled," she said. "So excited to share my experiences and ideas with others."

McMahon was selected to develop her project, “Ordinary People: Poland’s Response to Ukraine and Future of Humanitarianism.” She and an international team of scholars have been studying the motivations, practices, and limitations of grassroots humanitarianism.

Founded by the Rockefeller Foundation in 1959, the center's establishment at Lake Como in Northern Italy was rooted in the belief that transformative ideas emerge from the confluence of diverse minds. Alumni have included Nobel laureates, renowned artists, and pioneering researchers, such as Joseph Stiglitz, Maya Angelou, and Mary Robinson.
