After a week at the National Model United Nations conference in New York, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Model UN Delegation finished with a Distinguished Delegation award. The award is the second highest award presented by the conference, indicating the delegation's performance was ranked in the top 35% of attending schools. The UNL delegation was one of 33 delegations to earn the distinction.
Randy Thomas, president of the UNL Model UN group, said the award helped the team feel like their work was worth it.
"The award is excellent because it serves as validation for the hard work and preparation our team put in this year," Thomas said. "Model United Nations is not a competition, but it is nice to see our distinction based on how well each of our member represented our country, Azerbaijan."
NMUN uses three elements to determine which delegations receive the award: remaining in character, participating in committee and proper use of the rules of procedure. Those factors are weighted equally in a mathematical formula to give each delegation a score.
This award is the highest award the UNL delegation has earned since its revitalization in 2012, and it continues a three-year streak of consecutive recognition.
