Benjamin Schoenkin, a broadcasting and political science major, recently returned from the Midwest Journalism Conference.

At the conference, Schoenkin was awarded the prestigious Jack Shelley Scholarship for outstanding promise in the field of broadcasting. Individuals are given the award based on their dedication to broadcast journalism as a career, academic achievement, and experience in the field of broadcast journalism.

While there, Benjamin also received a Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association Eric Sevareid Award of Merit for a radio story he did on State Senator Ernie Chamber’s euthanasia proposal. The award is named for Eric Sevareid, a graduate of the University of Minnesota best known for his work as a correspondent for CBS Radio and Television.
