He is a co-author of the textbook American Government, which has won awards for its coverage of women and minorities, and Quantitative Methods for Public Administration, which is a user-friendly text in research methods designed for those whose love for political science cause them to avoid undergraduate courses dealing with numbers. He joined the department in 1971 and served as department chair 1998-2008.
