Through the Public Policy Analysis Certificate (PPAC) program, learn how to analyze and evaluate public policies, develop communication skills to assist in the policymaking process, and gain practical hands-on experience. Employers will appreciate the skills that students of any major and career path develop.
Students work with the Public Policy Analysis Coordinator to create a specialized plan of study based on their interest.
18 Credit Hours
Level 1
Two courses to gain knowledge on the theories, processes, models, and methods of policy analysis.
Both are required:
- POLS 235, Public Policy: Concepts and Processes
- POLS 236, Public Policy Analysis: Methods and Models
Level 2
One course dealing with the interpersonal, interagency, and intergroup communication process that occurs in policymaking.
Choose one:
- COMM/ETHN 311, Intercultural and Intergroup Communication
- POLS 320, Political Persuasion and Advocacy Strategy
- POLS/SOCI 261, Conflict and Conflict Resolution
Level 3
Two courses in one policy area (outlined in the next section) to gain specialized knowledge.
Choose two within a policy area.
Level 4
Internship experience taken for academic credit—hands on experience with policy at a non-profit or government agency.
